Self-organizing systems consist of components whose local interactions produce global behaviors such as spontaneous self-assembly, motion, computation and replication.
In our lab we engineer self-organizing systems that have predicatble, robust behaviors.
We have built systems ranging from electromechanical parts that, when mixed toghether, form desired shapes to DNA molecules that behave like motors.
We are particularly interested in dynamical systems, feedback control, stochastic processes and concurrency applied to self-organization.
The ultimate goal is to engineer self-organizing systems at the molecular level with applications ranging from manufacturing novel materials to building new regulatory networks inside cells.

- SOSLab awarded an "A. Richard Newton Breakthrough Research Award" from Microsoft to study stochastic processes inside single cells of genetically engineered bacteria.
